Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the break of Day 1 By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah). 2 by the even and the odd, 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 Is there in this an oath for one endowed with understanding? 5 Have you not heard how your Lord dealt with Aad? 6 Of Eram with lofty pillars (erected as signposts in the desert), 7 whose like has never been created in any other land. 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 And with Pharaoh of the tent pegs 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 And multiplied therein corruption. 12 Therefore did thy Lord pour on them a scourge of diverse chastisements: 13 your Lord keeps an eye on (all evil-doing people). 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him, through honour and blessings, he says, "My Lord has honoured me," 15 But when He tries him by restraining his means, he says: "My Lord despises me." 16 Not at all – but rather you do not honour the orphan. 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the needy. 18 and you devour the inheritance [of others] with devouring greed, 19 And ye love riches with exceeding love. 20 Surely when We pound the earth to powder grounded, pounded to dust, 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 and Gehenna (Hell) is brought near on that Day the human will remember, and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: "Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life!" 24 None punisheth as He will punish on that day! 25 and Allah will bind as none other can bind. 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 "Come back thou to thy Lord,- well pleased (thyself), and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
