In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Kaf. Ha. Ya. Ain. Sad. 1 (This is) a recital of the Mercy of thy Lord to His servant Zakariya. 2 When he called out to his Sustainer in the secrecy of his heart, 3 Praying: "O my Lord! infirm indeed are my bones, and the hair of my head doth glisten with grey: but never am I unblest, O my Lord, in my prayer to Thee! 4 I am afraid of what my kinsmen will do after (my death) and my wife is barren. Lord, grant me a son 5 Inheriting me and inheriting the Children of Ya'qub; and make him, my Lord, acceptable! 6 O Zakariyya! verily We give thee the glad tidings of a boy: his name shall be Yahya; We have not afore-time made his namesake. 7 He said, "My Lord, how will I have a boy when my wife has been barren and I have reached extreme old age?" 8 (The angel) said, "This is true, but your Lord says, 'For Me it is easy; I created you when you did not exist". 9 He said, 'Lord, appoint to me some sign.' Said He, 'Thy sign is that thou shall not speak to men, though being without fault, three nights.' 10 So Zakariya came out to his people from him chamber: He told them by signs to celebrate Allah's praises in the morning and in the evening. 11 (To his son came the command): "O Yahya! take hold of the Book with might": and We gave him Wisdom even as a youth, 12 And compassion from Ourselves, and chastity; and he was extremely pious. 13 honoring his parents, being neither arrogant nor rebellious. 14 Hence, [God's] peace was upon him on the day when he was born, and on the day of his death, and will be [upon him] on the day when he shall be raised to life [again]. 15
