In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou folded in garments! 1 stand up to pray for much of the night. 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof 3 or add to it a little; and recite the Qur'an slowly and distinctly. 4 Surely We will make to light upon you a weighty Word. 5 Verily the rising by night! it is most curbing and most conducive to right speech. 6 Indeed during the day you have a long schedule of occupations. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with (exclusive) devotion. 8 He is the Lord of the east and the west, there is no deity but Him, so take Him as your Guardian. 9 And bear thou patiently what they say, and forsake them graciously. 10 And leave them to Me – these wealthy deniers – and give them some respite. 11 for with Us there are fetters, and a furnace, 12 choking food and a painful punishment. 13 On that day, the earth and the mountains will be violently shaken, and the mountains will be turned into heaps of moving sand. 14 We have sent an Apostle to you as a witness against you, as We had sent an apostle to the Pharaoh. 15 In response Firaun disobeyed the Noble Messenger, so We seized him with a severe seizure. 16 How then, if you disbelieve, will you preserve yourselves on the day which will even turn the children hoary? 17 Whereon the heaven will be cleft asunder? His Promise is certainly to be accomplished. 18 This is a reminder. Let anyone who wants, seek guidance from his Lord. 19
