The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 Arise and warn, 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 And all defilement shun! 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
