The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 About which they differ? 3 Indeed they will come to know soon; 4 Nay, again, they will come to know! 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and We made your sleep a rest, 9 And We have made the night a covering. 10 And made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And constructed above you seven strong [heavens] 12 and placed in them a blazing lamp 13 and have sent down out of the rainclouds water cascading 14 so that We may bring forth thereby grain and a variety of plants, 15 and gardens dense with follage. 16 Surely the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 The Day the Horn is blown and you will come forth in multitudes 18 And the heavens shall be opened as if there were doors, 19 And the mountains shall be moved off so that they shall remain a mere semblance. 20 Surely hell lies in wait, 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 Living therein for ages. 23 They will not taste therein cool or any drink. 24 Except boiling water and benumbing cold: 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 For indeed they did not look forward to any reckoning, 27 And rejected Our signs as lies. 28 We have kept account of everything in a book. 29 So taste (of that which ye have earned). No increase do We give you save of torment. 30
