Remember when you set forth in the morning from your house assigning the faithful positions for the battle, God heard everything and knew all. 121 When two groups among you almost decided to show cowardice – and Allah is their Protector; and in Allah only should the believers trust. 122 For God had helped you during the Battle of Badr at a time when you were helpless. So act in compliance with the laws of God; you may well be grateful. 123 And recall when you said to the believers: 'Will it not suffice you that your Lord will aid you by sending down three thousand angels? 124 Indeed if you are patient and take heed for yourselves, and the (enemy) come rushing at you suddenly your Lord will send even five thousand angels on chargers sweeping down." 125 Allah did not make this to be except as glad tidings for you, so that your hearts might be comforted. Victory comes only from Allah, the Mighty, the Wise. 126 In order that He may cut off a part of unbelievers or overthrow them, and they turn back in frustration. 127 [And] it is in no wise for thee [O Prophet] to decide whether He shall accept their repentance or chastise them - for, behold, they are but wrongdoers, 128 And to Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. He forgives whom He wills and punishes whom He wills. And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful. 129
