The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 On thrones decorated, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 Only the saying, "Peace! Peace". 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 and fruits abounding 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
