He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 when the blind came to him. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 you ignore him. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
