This surely is a revelation from the Lord of the Universe: 192 The Trustworthy Spirit brought it down. (Angel Jibreel – peace be upon him.) 193 To thy heart and mind, that thou mayest admonish. 194 In plain Arabic speech. 195 Its news was also mentioned in the ancient Books. 196 Was it not a sign for them known to the learned of the Children of Israel? 197 If We had sent it down on a barbarian 198 and he had recited it to them, they would not have believed in it. 199 Thus have We caused this [message] to pass [unheeded] through the hearts of those who are lost in sin: 200 They will not believe in it until they suffer the painful torment. 201 It will come upon them suddenly when they are not expecting it. 202 They will therefore say, “Will we get some respite?” 203 What, do they seek to hasten Our chastisement? 204 Do you not see that even if We give them respite for years 205 And then cometh that which they were promised, 206 what avail will their past enjoyments be to them? 207 We never destroyed any town without first sending to them warning and guidance. 208 for a reminder, and We never harmed. 209 And it is not the Shayatin (devils) who have brought it (this Quran) down, 210 neither are they worthy of it, nor are they capable of it, 211 verily, [even] from hearing it are they utterly debarred! 212 Hence, [O man,] do not invoke any other deity side by side with God, lest thou find thyself among those who are made to suffer [on Judgment Day]. 213 and warn your nearest kinsmen; 214 And lower thy wing (in kindness) unto those believers who follow thee. 215 but if they disobey thee, say: "I am free of responsibility for aught that you may do!" 216 Put your trust in the Mighty One, the Merciful, 217 Who observes you when you rise (to pray) 218 And thy movements among those who prostrate themselves, 219 He is All-hearing and All-knowing." 220 Shall I inform you upon whom the devils descend? 221 They descend upon every calumniator, sinner. 222 Who give ear, and most of them are liars. 223 And the Poets,- It is those straying in Evil, who follow them: 224 Hast thou not seen how they stray in every valley, 225 And they speak what they do not do? 226 Except those who believe, work righteousness, engage much in the remembrance of Allah, and defend themselves only after they are unjustly attacked. And soon will the unjust assailants know what vicissitudes their affairs will take! 227
