The tribe of Thamud denied the Noble Messengers. 23 For they said; Is it a mortal man, alone among us, that we are to follow? Then indeed we should fall into error and madness. 24 "Is it that the Message is sent to him, of all people amongst us? Nay, he is a liar, an insolent one!" 25 (Unto their warner it was said): To-morrow they will know who is the rash liar. 26 Behold, [O Salih] We are letting loose this she-camel as a test for them; and thou but watch them, and contain thyself in patience. 27 And inform them that the water is shared between them, each [day of] drink attended [by turn]. 28 Then they called their fellow, and he took the sword and hamstrung her, 29 and how severe was the suffering which I inflicted when My warnings were disregarded! 30 We sent upon them a single blast of sound and they were left like hay to be used by the cattle. 31 We made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would take heed? 32 The people of Lout (Lot) belied the warnings. 33 Verily We! We sent upon them a gravel-storm save the household of Lut; them We delivered at early dawn. 34 as a blessing from Us: this is how We reward the thankful. 35 For he had truly warned them of Our punishing might; but they stubbornly cast doubt on these warnings, 36 And they indeed sought to shame his guest (by asking to commit sodomy with them). So We blinded their eyes, "Then taste you My Torment and My Warnings." 37 And certainly a lasting chastisement overtook them in the morning. 38 So now taste My punishment and My commination! 39 And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition? 40
