The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Read! In the name of your Lord, who created: 1 created man out of a germ-cell 2 Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous - 3 who taught by the pen, 4 taught Man that he knew not. 5 Nay, surely man transgresses; 6 For he thinks he is sufficient in himself. 7 Surely! Unto your Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen one who prevents 9 a worshiper when he prays. 10 Bethinkest thou, if he is himself guided, 11 or enjoins true piety? 12 Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away? 13 does he not know that Allah sees? 14 No indeed; surely, if he gives not over, We shall seize him by the forelock, 15 by the lying forelock steeped in sin. 16 and then let him summon [to his aid] the counsels of his own [spurious] wisdom, 17 and We too will call the stern and angry keepers of hell. 18 By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ 19
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.

Notes and Instructions
قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
