Jonah was certainly a Messenger. 139 When he ran to the laden ship, 140 cast lots, and was among the losers. 141 The fish then swallowed him and he blamed himself. (For not waiting for Allah’s command.) 142 Had he not been of them who glorify Allah, 143 He would have stayed in its belly till the day the dead are raised. 144 ۞ We cast him out of the fish unto dry land and he was sick. 145 and caused a creeping plant to grow over him [out of the barren soil]. 146 And We had sent him to a hundred thousand: rather they exceeded. 147 So they accepted faith – We therefore gave them usage for a while. 148 Now ask them if their Lord has daughters, and they sons? 149 Did We create the angels females, to which they were witnesses? 150 Lo! verily it is of their falsehood that they say: 151 Allah has begotten; and most surely they are liars. 152 Has He chosen daughters in preference to sons? 153 What is the matter with you? How judge ye? 154 Will you not then reflect? 155 “Or do you have some clear proof?” 156 Bring your Book, if you speak truly! 157 And some people have invented a kinship between Him and all manner of invisible forces although [even] these invisible forces know well that, verily, they [who thus blaspheme against God] shall indeed be arraigned [before Him on Judgment Day: for] 158 limitless is God in His glory, above anything that men may devise by way of definition! 159 Except the chosen servants of Allah [who do not share in that sin]. 160 You and whatever you worship 161 Can lead (any) into temptation concerning Allah, 162 Save him who will go to hell. 163 There is not one of us (angels) but has his known place (or position); 164 And verily we! we are ranged in ranks. 165 “And indeed we are those who say His purity.” 166 And there were those who said, 167 'If only we had a reminder from the ancients, 168 we would certainly be true servants of God." 169 Yet (now that it is come) they disbelieve therein; but they will come to know. 170 And assuredly Our word hath already gone forth Our bondmen, the sent ones: 171 That undoubtedly, only they will be helped. 172 and that, verily, Our hosts - they indeed - would [in the end] be victorious! 173 Hence, turn thou aside for a while from those [who deny the truth,] 174 And watch them (how they fare), and they soon shall see (how thou farest)! 175 Do they seek to hasten Our chastisement? 176 But when it descends in their territory, then evil is the morning of those who were warned. 177 And turn away from them till a time 178 and watch. They, too, will watch. 179 Glory be to thy Lord, the Lord of Glory, above that they describe! 180 And peace be upon the Envoys; 181 and all praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Universe. 182
