Nay, and by the moon, 32 by the retreating night, 33 By the morning when it brighteneth. 34 Surely it (hell) is one of the gravest (misfortunes), 35 As a warning unto men, 36 to everyone of you, whether he chooses to come forward or to hang back! 37 Every soul is mortgaged for its own deeds. 38 Except those of the right hand 39 In Gardens (Paradise) they will ask one another, 40 and will ask of the criminals, 41 “What drove you to Hell?” 42 and they shall reply, "We were not among those who prayed; 43 and we did not feed the poor, 44 We indulged and persisted in useless disputes, 45 and we denied the Day of Judgement 46 until the Inevitable End [death] overtook us." 47 So no intercession of intercessors will be of any use to them. 48 Then what is wrong with them (i.e. the disbelievers) that they turn away from (receiving) admonition? 49 As though they were asses startled. 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 Yea, everyone of them claims that he [himself] ought to have been given revelations unfolded! 52 Nay, but they do not [believe in and hence, do not] fear the life to come. 53 Nay, verily, this is an admonition 54 and whoever wills may take it to heart. 55 they will only take heed if God so wills: He is the Lord who is worthy to be feared: the Lord of forgiveness. 56
