The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Woe to Al-Mutaffifin [those who give less in measure and weight (decrease the rights of others)], 1 who demand of other people full measure for themselves, 2 but when they give by measurement or weight to others, they give them less. 3 Do they not think that they will be resurrected 4 On a Great Day, 5 The Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the Universe? 6 Nay! Surely the record of the wicked is (preserved) in Sijjin. 7 And what will make thee know whatsoever the record in Sijjin is? 8 The record is a sealed text. 9 Ah the woe that day for those who deny, 10 who cry lies to the Day of Doom; 11 And none belieth it save each trespasser, sinner. 12 Who, when thou readest unto him Our revelations, saith: (Mere) fables of the men of old. 13 Nay! rather, what they used to do has become like rust upon their hearts. 14 On the Day of Judgment, they will certainly be barred from the mercy of their Lord. 15 Then they will indeed burn in Hell. 16 Then it will be said [to them], "This is what you used to deny." 17 No indeed; the book of the pious is in Illiyun; 18 And what do you know what the Illiyoon are! 19 A record of good deeds written. 20 Which is witnessed by the close ones. 21 Lo! the righteous verily are in delight, 22 upon couches gazing; 23 thou knowest in their faces the radiancy of bliss 24 They will be given to drink of pure wine, sealed. 25 With a sealing of musk, which those who aspire for the best should desire, -- 26 And it is mixed with Tasneem. 27 A spring, from (the waters) whereof drink those Nearest to Allah. 28 The sinners laughed at the believers 29 When passing by them, they would wink at one another 30 and when they returned to their people they returned blithely, 31 And when they saw them, they said: Most surely these are in error; 32 Yet they were not sent to be their guardians. 33 But this Day (the Day of Resurrection) those who believe will laugh at the disbelievers 34 upon couches gazing. 35 Have the unbelievers been rewarded for what they did? 36
