The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By heaven and the night-star! 1 Do you know what al-tariq is? 2 It is the star that shines with a piercing brightness -- 3 Over every soul there is a watcher. 4 So man must consider from what he has been created. 5 He has been created from an ejected drop of fluid 6 Proceeding from between the back-bone and the ribs, 7 Lo! He verily is Able to return him (unto life) 8 On a Day whereon secrets shall be out. 9 and [man] will have neither strength nor helper! 10 By oath of the sky from which comes down the rain. 11 by the earth cracking open with new growth. 12 Verily, it is a discourse distinguishing. 13 And it is no joke. 14 Behold, they [who refuse to accept it] devise many a false argument [to disprove its truth]; 15 but I too plan against them. 16 So bear with unbelievers with patience, and give them respite for a while. 17
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
