The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
[All] praise is [due] to Allah, who has sent down upon His Servant the Book and has not made therein any deviance. 1 so that he could warn them of His stern retribution, give the glad news of the best and everlasting reward to the righteously striving believers, 2 wherein they shall abide for ever; 3 Furthermore, [this divine writ is meant] to warn all those who assert, "God has taken unto Himself a son." 4 They do not have any knowledge of it – nor did their forefathers; profound is the word that comes out of their mouths; they only speak a lie. 5 (O Muhammad), if they do not believe in this Message, you will perhaps torment yourself to death with grief, sorrowing over them. 6 Verily We have made whatsoever is on the earth as an adornment thereof, that We may prove them - which of them is best in work. 7 For We shall certainly turn it to barren dust. 8 Deemest thou that the people of the cave and the inscription were of Our signs a wonder? 9 When the youths sought refuge in the Cave, they said: 'Lord give us from Your Mercy and furnish us with rectitude in our affair' 10 We lulled them to sleep in that cave for a number of years 11 Then We awakened them that We might show which of the two factions was most precise in calculating what [extent] they had remained in time. 12
