The Thamud tribe denied the Noble Messengers. 141 When their brother Salih (Saleh) said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him? 142 I am a trustworthy Messengers sent to you. 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds. 145 Shall ye be left secure in that which is here before us. 146 among gardens and fountains, 147 And corn-fields and palm-trees whereof the spathes are fine? 148 And you hew houses out of the mountains exultingly; 149 So fear Allah and obey me. 150 Do not follow those who are extravagant, 151 "Who make mischief in the land, and mend not (their ways)." 152 They replied: 'Surely, you are one of those bewitched. 153 thou art naught but a mortal, like us; then produce a sign, if thou art one of the truthful.' 154 He said, "This is the she-camel - one day shall be her turn to drink, and on the other appointed day, shall be your turn." 155 and do not touch her with malice so that there seize you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 156 But they ham-strung her: then did they become full of regrets. 157 So the punishment overtook them. Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 158 Yet verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 159
