Therefore (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him), enlighten, for by the munificence of your Lord, you are neither a soothsayer nor a madman. 29 Or do they say, 'He is a poet for whom we await Fate's uncertainty'? 30 Say: 'Wait if you will; I shall be waiting with you' 31 Is it that their faculties of understanding urge them to this, or are they but a people transgressing beyond bounds? 32 Or do they say, "He has invented it himself"? Indeed, they are not willing to believe. 33 Let them bring a discourse like thereunto, if they say sooth. 34 Were they created of nothing, or were they themselves the creators? 35 Or is it they who created the heavens and the earth? No; the truth is that they lack sure faith. 36 Do they possess the treasures of your Lord? Or are they the treasurers? 37 Have they a stairway whereby they overhear? Then let their listener bring an authority manifest. 38 Does God have daughters while you have sons? 39 Or is it that [they who reject thy message, O Muhammad, fear lest] thou ask of them a reward, so that they would be burdened with debt [if they should listen to thee]? 40 Or have they [knowledge of] the unseen, so they write [it] down? 41 Or are they planning a conspiracy? So the conspiracy will befall only upon the disbelievers. 42 Is theirs a god beside Allah? Hallowed be Allah from that which they associate! 43 Even if they saw lumps falling from heaven, they would say, 'A massed cloud!' 44 So leave them alone until they encounter that Day of theirs, wherein they shall (perforce) swoon (with terror),- 45 A day on which their scheming will not benefit them at all, nor will they be helped. 46 Surely a chastisement awaits the wrong-doers even before the coming of that Day; but most of them do not know. 47 So wait patiently (O Muhammad) for thy Lord's decree, for surely thou art in Our sight; and hymn the praise of thy Lord when thou uprisest, 48 Extol His glory at night, and at the setting of the stars. 49
