The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
A questioner asked about a Penalty to befall- 1 The Unbelievers, the which there is none to ward off,- 2 (A punishment) from Allah, the Owner of the Elevated Passages. 3 The angels and the spirit ascend unto him in a Day the measure whereof is (as) fifty thousand years: 4 Therefore be patient, with a beautiful patience; 5 They deem it to be remote. 6 Whereas We see it impending. 7 The Day that the sky will be like molten brass, 8 and the mountains will become like tufts of wool, 9 even intimate friends will not inquire about their friends, 10 though they may be in one another's sight: [for,] everyone who was lost in sin will on that Day but desire to ransom himself from suffering at the price of his own children, 11 and of his spouse, and of his brother, 12 his kin who sheltered him, 13 And all who are on the earth; so that this might deliver him. 14 By no means! Verily it is a Flame. 15 Plucking out (his being) right to the skull!- 16 Inviting (all) such as turn their backs and turn away their faces (from the Right). 17 and amassed wealth and covetously hoarded it. 18 ۞ Indeed, the human was created grudging and impatient. 19 When evil touches him, impatient, 20 and tight-fisted when good fortune visits him, 21 Save worshippers. 22 who are constant in prayer; 23 They are those who assign a certain share of their property 24 For the beggar and the destitute. 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgement, 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord. 27 for, behold, of their Sustainer's chastisement none may ever feel [wholly] secure; 28 who guard their carnal desires 29 Are free of blame, 30 whereas such as seek to go beyond that [limit] are truly transgressors; 31 And those who keep their pledges and their covenant, 32 and who stand firm whenever they bear witness; 33 And those who are attentive at their worship. 34 Such will be the honoured ones in the Gardens (of Bliss). 35
