The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ When the sky bursts open, 1 And has responded to its Lord and was obligated [to do so] 2 and when the earth is leveled, 3 And casts forth what is in it and becomes empty, 4 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 5 [then,] O man - thou [that] hast, verily, been toiling towards thy Sustainer in painful toil - then shalt thou meet Him! 6 Then as for him who is given his book in his right hand, 7 Soon an easy account will be taken from him. 8 And will return to his family in joy! 9 But as for those whose Book of records will be given behind their backs, 10 He shall call for perdition, 11 They will suffer the heat of hell fire. 12 He used to be happy with his own people; 13 for he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 But no; (how would he not revert)? His Lord was ever watching him. 15 I swear by the glow of sunset, 16 and the night, and what it [step by step] unfolds, 17 And the Moon in her fullness: 18 [even thus, O men,] are you bound to move; onward from stage to stage. 19 What is the matter with them, that they believe not? 20 and when the Qur'an is recited to them, they do not prostrate themselves? ۩ 21 Nay, (on the contrary), those who disbelieve, belie (Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) and whatever he brought, i.e. this Quran and Islamic Monotheism, etc.). 22 God is quite aware of what they are storing in their hearts. 23 (Muhammad), tell them that they will all suffer a painful torment 24 except to those who believe, and do righteous deeds, for theirs is an unfailing recompense. 25
