۞ [The angels will be ordered], "Gather those who committed wrong, their kinds, and what they used to worship 22 “Instead of Allah – and herd them to the path leading to hell.” 23 and stop them there for questioning: 24 How is it that you are not helping one another? 25 Nay, but on that Day they would willingly surrender [to God]; 26 And they will approach one another blaming each other. 27 They will say: verily ye! ye were wont to come unto us Imposing. 28 They will reply: "Nay, ye yourselves had no Faith! 29 And we had over you no authority, but ye were a people exorbitant. 30 So the word of our Lord has come into effect upon us; indeed, we will taste [punishment]. 31 We mislead you and we ourselves had also gone astray." 32 So this day they all are partners in the punishment. 33 This is how We deal with the guilty. 34 Indeed, when it was said to them, “There is no God except Allah”, they were haughty. 35 And were saying, "Are we to leave our gods for a mad poet?" 36 No, indeed, he has brought the truth, and confirmed the Messengers. 37 Indeed, you [disbelievers] will be tasters of the painful punishment, 38 And you will be requited nothing except for what you used to do (evil deeds, sins, and Allah's disobedience which you used to do in this world); 39 But the chosen servants of God; 40 For them there is a known provision, 41 as the fruits [of their life on earth]; and honoured shall they be 42 In gardens of pleasure 43 on couches facing each other. 44 A cup from a gushing spring is brought round for them, 45 white and delicious to those who drink it, 46 wherein no sickness is, neither intoxication; 47 Theirs shall be wide-eyed maidens with bashful, restrained glances, 48 who are as chaste as sheltered eggs. 49 And some of them draw near unto others, mutually questioning. 50 One of them speaks thus: "Behold, I had [on earth] a close companion 51 Who used to say: "Are you among those who believe (in resurrection after death). 52 Shall we be recompensed for our deeds after we die and become bones and dust? 53 (A voice) said: "Would ye like to look down?" 54 So he looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire. 55 He said: "By Allah! thou wast little short of bringing me to perdition! 56 for had it not been for my Sustainer's favour, I would surely be [now] among those who are given over [to suffering]! 57 "Is it (the case) that we shall not die, 58 Other than our first death, and we shall not be punished? 59 This will indeed be great happiness. 60 For the like of this then let the workers work. 61 Is this better as a welcome, or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 We have made this tree a trial for the wrong-doers. 63 Verily it is a tree that springeth forth in the bottom of Flaming Fire. 64 and its fruits are like devils' heads. 65 The dwellers of hell will eat that fruit and fill-up their bellies. 66 Then on top of it they will have a brew of boiling water. 67 then their return is unto Hell. 68 They found their fathers had gone astray; 69 and rushed to follow them. 70 And verily most of the men of old went astray before them, 71 But We sent aforetime, among them, (messengers) to admonish them;- 72 So behold what wise hath been the end of those who were warned. 73 Save the bondmen of Allah sincere. 74
