The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 Arise and warn, 2 And your Lord glorify 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 stay away from sins 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 and sons standing before him, 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 and who still desires more. 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then he looked round; 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 and it has nineteen angelic keepers. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
