The Human (Al-Insan)
31 verses, revealed in Medina after The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman) before Divorce (Al-Talaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
There was certainly a time when there was no mention of the human being. 1 Indeed, We created man from a sperm-drop mixture that We may try him; and We made him hearing and seeing. 2 Surely We have shown him the way: he may be thankful or unthankful. 3 [Now,] behold, for those who deny the truth We have readied chains and shackles, and a blazing flame 4 Verily the pious shall drink of a cup whereof the admixture is like unto camphor. 5 a fountain whereat drink the servants of God, making it to gush forth plenteously. 6 They (are those who) fulfill (their) vows, and they fear a Day whose evil will be wide-spreading. 7 And feed the needy for the love of Him, and the orphans and the captives, 8 Saying: we feed you only for the sake of Allah; we desire not from you any recompense or thanks. 9 we fear from our Lord a Day that shall be long and distressful.” 10 So Allah shall guard them against the woe of that Day, and will procure them freshness and joy, 11 and their reward for being patient will be a Garden and silk [clothing]. 12 In that [garden] they will on couches recline, and will know therein neither [burning] sun nor cold severe, 13 The shades of Paradise will bend over them, and its fruits will be brought within their easy reach; 14 And brought round amongst them will be vessels of silver and also goblets of glass. 15 (Transparent as) glass, made of silver; they have measured them according to a measure. 16 And they shall be made to drink therein a cup the admixture of which shall be ginger, 17 drawn from a spring (in Paradise) called Salsabil. 18 ۞ Immortal youths shall surround them, waiting upon them; when you see them, you would think they are scattered pearls. 19 And when you look there (in Paradise), you will see a delight (that cannot be imagined), and a great dominion. 20 Upon the inhabitants will be green garments of fine silk and brocade. And they will be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord will give them a purifying drink. 21 Verily this is for you by way of recompense, and your endeavour hath been accepted. 22
