Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the dawn 1 by the Ten (secret) Nights, 2 by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 Hast thou not seen how thy Lord did with Ad, 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 And (with) Thamud (people), who cut (hewed) out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)? 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 [All of] whom oppressed within the lands 11 and worked much corruption therein? 12 so your Lord unleashed on them the scourge of punishment: 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 BUT AS FOR man, whenever his Sustainer tries him by His generosity and by letting him enjoy a life of ease, he says, "My Sustainer has been [justly] generous towards me"; 15 But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 and you do not urge one another to feed the needy, 18 and you devour the inheritance with greed, 19 and why do you have an excessive love of riches? 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 And when the command of your Lord comes – and the angels row by row, 22 And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He will say: "Alas! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my life!" 24 But on that Day none will punish as He (Allah) will punish, 25 None bindeth as He then will bind. 26 [But unto the righteous God will say,] "O thou human being that hast attained to inner peace! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], 28 Enter among My servants 29 And enter My Paradise." 30
