Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ I swear by this city (Mecca) – 1 And you are free (from sin, to punish the enemies of Islam on the Day of the conquest) in this city (Makkah). 2 And the begetter and that which he begat, 3 We created the human in fatigue. 4 Thinks he that none can overcome him? 5 He says: “I have squandered enormous wealth.” 6 Does he, then, think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 and a tongue and two lips? 9 and shown him the two highways [of good and evil]? 10 Yet he has not assaulted the steep; 11 And what will explain to thee the path that is steep?- 12 (It is) to free a slave, 13 Or, feeding, in a day of privation, 14 of an orphan near of kin, 15 Or a needy person in misery 16 And to be of those who believe, and urge upon one another to persevere, and urge upon each other to be kind. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right Hand. 18 And those who denied Our signs, are the people of the left. 19 Upon them is a fire, in which they are imprisoned, closed and shut above them. 20
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
