The people of 'Ad, too, rejected the messengers. 123 Their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear God? 124 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 125 "So fear Allah and obey me. 126 I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 127 What, you build a monument on every hill merely for fun 128 And seek ye out strongholds, that haply ye may last for ever? 129 And when ye seize, ye seize like unto tyrants. 130 Rather keep your duty to Allah, and obey me. 131 and [thus] be conscious of Him who has [so] amply provided you with all [the good] that you might think of 132 Provided you with grazing livestock and children 133 and gardens, and springs: 134 Verily I fear for you the torment of a Mighty Day. 135 [But] they answered. "It is all one to us whether thou preachest [something new] or art not of those who [like to] preach. 136 this is nothing but the habit of the ancients, 137 And we are not going to be tormented. 138 So they belied him, so We destroyed them. Surely, in that there is a sign; yet most of them do not believe. 139 And verily thy Lord? He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
