Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha, Meem. 1 By the Book that makes things clear, 2 Indeed, We sent it down during a blessed night. Indeed, We were to warn [mankind]. 3 During it are distributed all the works of wisdom. 4 By a command from Us – indeed it is We Who send. 5 A mercy from thy Lord. Verily He! He is the Hearer, the Knower. 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if ye would be sure. 7 There is no god but He: He gives life and causes death. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers of yore. 8 (But the fact is, they lack certainty) and frolic about in doubt. 9 Watch for the Day when the heaven will bring clear smoke, 10 Covering the people, this is a painful torment. 11 'O our Lord, remove Thou from us the chastisement; we are believers.' 12 But how will they avail themselves of the Reminder, when a clear Messenger had already come to them 13 But they turned away from him, and said: "He is well-instructed, (but) possessed." 14 We shall indeed remove the Penalty for a while, (but) truly ye will revert (to your ways). 15 On the day when We will seize (them) with the most violent seizing; surely We will inflict retribution. 16 ۞ AND, INDEED, [long] before their time did We try Pharaoh's people [in the same way]: for there came unto them a noble apostle, [who said:] 17 saying, 'Deliver to me God's servants; I am for you a faithful Messenger, 18 And saying: Be not proud against Allah. Lo! I bring you a clear warrant. 19 I have taken refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you should attack me with stones. 20 If you do not believe in me, leave me alone." 21 Then he cried out to his Lord, "These are sinful people." 22 (His Lord answered): 'Set out with My worshipers in the night, for you will surely be followed. 23 “And leave the sea as it is, parted in several places; indeed that army will be drowned.” 24 How many were the gardens and springs they left behind, 25 and sown fields, fine sitting places, 26 And the delights which they had been enjoying! 27 Thus (it was), and We gave them as a heritage to another people. 28 So the heaven and the earth did not weep for them, nor were they respited. 29
