The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By heaven and the night-star! 1 And what could make thee conceive what it is that comes in the night? 2 The piercing star! 3 There is no living being but there is a protector over it. 4 Let the human being reflect that from what he has been created. 5 He was created from a fluid, ejected, 6 issuing from between the backbone and the breastbone: 7 Surely, He is Able to bring him back, 8 The Day when all the secrets (deeds, prayers, fasting, etc.) will be examined (as to their truth). 9 Then will he have no might nor any helper. 10 So I call to witness the rain-producing sky, 11 by the earth cracking open with new growth. 12 Indeed the Qur'an is a decisive Word. 13 And it is not a frivolity. 14 They are devising a guile, 15 but I shall bring all their scheming to nought. 16 So give a respite to the disbelievers. Deal thou gently with them for a while. 17
