The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it descends, 1 your companion is neither astray, neither errs, 2 Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired, 4 He has been taught (this Quran) by one mighty in power [Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 5 One vigorous; and he grew clear to view 6 And he is in the highest part of the horizon. 7 and then drew near, and came close, 8 And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer; 9 And thus did [God] reveal unto His servant whatever He deemed right to reveal. 10 The heart lied not in that which he saw. 11 Will you then argue with him about what he saw? 12 Indeed, he saw him another time 13 At the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary - 14 by the Garden of [Eternal] Repose, 15 When the tree was covered with a covering, 16 The sight did not shift, nor did it cross the limits. 17 Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 HAVE YOU, then, ever considered [what you are worshipping in] Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third, the other? 20 What, have you males, and He females! 21 That indeed were an unfair division! 22 They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! 23 What! Will man get whatever he dreams of? 24 All that is in the life to come and all that is in this life belongs only to God. 25
