Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha-Mim. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. 1 By the Scripture that maketh plain 2 that We sent down during a Blessed Night. We are ever warning. 3 On which all affairs are sorted out and decided 4 at a behest from Ourselves: for, verily, We have always been sending [Our messages of guidance] 5 as a mercy from your Lord, He hears all and knows all, 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them, if you would be certain. 7 There is no god but He: It is He Who gives life and gives death,- The Lord and Cherisher to you and your earliest ancestors. 8 Yet they play about in doubt. 9 So watch for the Day when the sky will come down with a pall of smoke, 10 Which would envelope mankind. That would be a grievous affliction. 11 Our Lord! remove from us the punishment; surely we are believers. 12 How can there be an admonition unto them, when surely there came unto them an apostle manifest! 13 yet they turned away from him and said: “This is a well-tutored madman.” 14 Were We to ease the torment for a while, you would still revert to denial of the truth. 15 But on that Day We will assault them most mightily, and then We shall revenge! 16 ۞ And We had already tried before them the people of Pharaoh, and there came to them a noble messenger, 17 (and said): “Deliver to me Allah's servants. I am a trustworthy Messenger to you, 18 "And exalt not yourselves against God: for, verily, I come unto you with a manifest authority [from Him]; 19 "For me, I have sought safety with my Lord and your Lord, against your injuring me. 20 And if you do not believe in me, then leave me alone. 21 Then he called upon his Lord: “These are a criminal people.” 22 (He was told): “Set out with My servants by night for you will certainly be pursued. 23 "And leave the sea as a furrow (divided): for they are a host (destined) to be drowned." 24 They left how many gardens and fountains, 25 And green crops (fields etc.) and goodly places, 26 and what prosperity they had rejoiced in! 27 Thus it was. And [then] We made another people heirs [to what they had left,] 28 So the heaven and the earth did not weep for them, nor were they respited. 29
