Didst thou (O Muhammad) observe him who turned away, 33 and gives so little [of himself for the good of his soul,] and so grudgingly? 34 Does he have knowledge of the unseen, so he sees? 35 Or has he not been told of what is in the scrolls of Moses, 36 And of Ibrahim (Abraham) who fulfilled (or conveyed) all that (what Allah ordered him to do or convey), 37 “That no bearer of a burden shall bear the burden of another, 38 And that man shall have nothing but what he strives for- 39 and that [the fruit of] his striving shall soon be seen; 40 and will be fully recompensed for his deeds. 41 And that to your Lord is the goal- 42 It is He who causes laughter and weeping. 43 and that it is He who causes to die, and causes to live 44 And that He (Allah) creates the pairs, male and female, 45 From the small seed when it is adapted 46 and that upon Him rests the second growth, 47 And that it is He (Allah) Who gives much or a little (or gives wealth and contentment), 48 That He is the Lord of Sirius; 49 and that He destroyed Ad, the ancient, 50 and Thamud, leaving no trace of them, 51 And the people of Nuh before; surely they were most unjust and inordinate; 52 It is He who turned upside down the people of Lot 53 So there covered them that which covered. 54 Which of your Lord's benefits will you then dispute about? 55 This is a warning just like those of former times. 56 The Day of Resurrection draws near, 57 No (soul) but Allah can lay it bare. 58 Do you then wonder at this announcement? 59 And will you laugh and not weep? 60 While you are indulging in varieties. 61 [Nay,] but prostrate yourselves before God, and worship [Him alone]! ۩ 62
