He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And hath fear, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble, pious. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 laughing and joyous 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
