He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 you attend to him, 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 And he fears, 9 You neglect. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 Of what did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 How We pour water in showers 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 Olives and dates, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
