The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ I do call to witness this City;- 1 and thou art a lodger in this land; 2 And [by] the father and that which was born [of him], 3 We have certainly created man into hardship. 4 Does He think that no one will ever have control over him? 5 He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance." 6 Does he think that none has observed him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and a pair of lips? 9 And shown him the two ways (good and evil)? 10 So he did not quickly enter the steep valley. 11 And what have you understood, what the valley is! 12 (It is) the setting free of a slave, 13 Or the giving of food in a day of privation 14 to an orphan near of kin 15 or to a needy person in distress; 16 and, then besides this, he be one of those who believed, and enjoined upon one another steadfastness and enjoined upon one another compassion. 17 These are the people of the right. 18 and [as for] those who are bent on denying the truth of Our revelations, they are the people of the left hand, 19 [with] fire closing in upon them. 20
Almighty God's Truth.
