The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ AlifLaamRa. Those are the verses of the Book, the Clear Koran. 1 It could be that those who disbelieve will wish that they were Muslims. 2 so leave them to eat and enjoy themselves and let them be beguiled by vain hopes; for soon they will realise [the truth]. 3 Never did We destroy a population that had not a term decreed and assigned beforehand. 4 No community precedeth the term thereof nor doth it fall behind. 5 They say: "O thou to whom the Message is being revealed! truly thou art mad (or possessed)! 6 Why do you not bring us the angels, if you should be among the truthful?" 7 We send not the angels down except for just cause: if they came (to the ungodly), behold! no respite would they have! 8 We have, without doubt, sent down the Message; and We will assuredly guard it (from corruption). 9 We did send messengers before thee amongst the religious sects of old: 10 No Messenger went to them whom they did not mock. 11 Even so We make a way for it (that is, the Admonition) in the hearts of the culprits (like a hot rod); 12 They do not believe in him, and the tradition of earlier nations has passed. 13 Yet even had We opened to them a gateway to heaven and they had ascended, on and on, up to it, 14 they would surely have said, "It is only our eyes that are spellbound! Nay, we have been bewitched! 15
