Mary (Maryam)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
KaafHaYa'aeenSaad. 1 A mention of the Mercy of your Lord to his worshiper Zachariah, 2 When he called out to his Sustainer in the secrecy of his heart, 3 and said, "My Lord, my bones have become feeble and my hair has turned white with age. Yet I have never been deprived in receiving from You the answer to my prayers. 4 I am afraid of what my kinsmen will do after (my death) and my wife is barren. Lord, grant me a son 5 Who shall inherit of me and inherit (also) of the house of Jacob. And make him, my Lord, acceptable (unto Thee). 6 [He was told], "O Zechariah, indeed We give you good tidings of a boy whose name will be John. We have not assigned to any before [this] name." 7 [Zachariah] exclaimed: "O my Sustainer! How can I have a son when my wife has always been barren and I have become utterly infirm through old age?" 8 He said: So shall it be, your Lord says: It is easy to Me, and indeed I created you before, when you were nothing. 9 He (Zachariah) said: 'Lord, make for me a sign' He replied: 'Your sign is that you shall not speak to people for three nights being without fault' 10 Then he came forth unto his people from the sanctuary, and signified to them: Glorify your Lord at break of day and fall of night. 11 "O John! Hold the Book with all your strength." We had bestowed wisdom upon him while he was still a child; 12 and tenderness [of heart] and purity. He was pious, 13 And dutiful to his parents, and he was not insolent, disobedient. 14 And peace is upon him the day he was born, and the day he will taste death, and the day he will be raised alive. 15
