The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ Alif-Lam-Mim. 1 The Greeks have been vanquished 2 in the nearer part of the land; and, after their vanquishing, they shall be the victors 3 Within three to nine years. To Allah belongs the command before and after. And that day the believers will rejoice 4 In the help of God. He helps whom He will; He is all-mighty, ever-merciful. 5 The promise of Allah! Allah does not fail His promise, yet most people do not know. 6 People simply know the outward aspect of the worldly life but are utterly heedless of the Hereafter. 7 Do they not reflect within themselves: Allah did not create the heavens and the earth and what is between them two but with truth, and (for) an appointed term? And most surely most of the people are deniers of the meeting of their Lord. 8 Have they not travelled through the land and seen what end their predecessors met? They were mightier than them: they cultivated the earth more and built more upon it than these have ever built. Their own messengers also came to them with clear signs: God did not wrong them; they wronged themselves. 9 Then the end of those who did evil was the worst [consequence] because they denied the signs of Allah and used to ridicule them. 10
