He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 you attended to him, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and fears (Allah), 9 You neglect. 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted, pure. 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Noble and pious. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 olives, dates, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 and covered by darkness. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
