Surely We brought man into being out of dry ringing clay which was wrought from black mud, 26 And created the jinn before him, from smokeless fire. 27 And when thy Lord said to the angels, 'See, I am creating a mortal of a clay of mud moulded. 28 When I have shaped him, and breathed My spirit in him, fall you down, bowing before him!' 29 So the angels fell prostrate, all of them together 30 But Iblis did not; he refused to be with the prostrates. 31 Said He: "O Iblis! What is thy reason for not being among those who have prostrated themselves?" 32 [Iblis] replied: "It is not for me to prostrate myself before mortal man whom Thou hast created out of sounding clay, out of dark slime transmuted!" 33 (Allah) said: "Then, get out from here, for verily, you are Rajim (an outcast or a cursed one)." [Tafsir At-Tabari] 34 and [My] rejection shall be thy due until the Day of Judgment!" 35 Iblis prayed, "Lord, grant me respite until the Day of Judgment". 36 Said He, 'Thou art among the ones that are respited 37 till that Appointed Day." 38 (Iblis) said: "O my Lord! because Thou hast put me in the wrong, I will make (wrong) fair-seeming to them on the earth, and I will put them all in the wrong,- 39 But not such of them as are Thy bondmen single-hearted. 40 Said He: "This is, with Me, a straight way: 41 over My worshipers you have no authority, except the perverse that follow you. 42 Gehenna (Hell) will be the promise for all of them. 43 it has seven gates: and each gate has a portion of them allotted to it. 44
