We have not created the heavens and earth, and what between them is, for vanity; such is the thought of the unbelievers, wherefore woe unto the unbelievers because of the Fire! 27 [For,] would We treat those who have attained to faith and do righteous deeds in the same manner as [We shall treat] those who spread corruption on earth? Would We treat the God-conscious in the same manner as the wicked? 28 It is a blessed Book which We have revealed for you so that you will reflect upon its verses and so the people of understanding will take heed. 29 We bestowed Solomon on David who was an excellent devotee, for he turned to God in penitence. 30 Behold, there were brought before him, at eventide coursers of the highest breeding, and swift of foot; 31 He said: verily I have loved the love of earthly good above the remembrance of my Lord until the sun hath disappeared behind the veil. 32 Bring them back to me; so he began to slash (their) legs and necks. 33 And verily We tried Solomon, and set upon his throne a (mere) body. Then did he repent. 34 He said: “My Lord, forgive me and bestow upon me a kingdom such as none other after me will deserve. Surely You are the Bounteous Giver.” 35 So We subjected to him the wind blowing by his command, gently, wherever he directed, 36 and the Satans, every builder and diver 37 And others linked together in chains, 38 This is Our free gift, therefore give freely or withhold, without reckoning. 39 And lo! he hath favour with Us, and a happy journey's end. 40
