The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ When the Terror descends 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth shall be shaken with a (severe) shaking, 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 In shade long-extended, 30 And water poured out 31 and fruit abounding, 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 and upraised couches. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 and made them virgins, 36 full of love, well-matched 37 with those who have attained to righteousness: 38
