So when the envoys came to the household of Lot, 61 he said, "You are strangers [to me]." 62 They said: nay! we have come to thee with that whereof they have been dubitating. 63 And we have brought unto thee the truth, and verily we say sooth. 64 So travel with thy household in a portion of the night, and follow thou their backs. Let none of you turn round, but go whither ye are commanded. 65 And We made known this decree to him, that the root of those (sinners) was to be cut off in the early morning. 66 And the people of the city came rejoicing. 67 Said Lot: "These are my guests; do not put me to shame, 68 "But fear Allah, and shame me not." 69 They said, "Did we not forbid you to extend hospitality to strangers?" 70 He said: "There are my daughters (to marry), if ye must act (so)." 71 By your life, they wandered blindly in their dazzlement. 72 Then the shout took hold of them at the sunrise. 73 We turned the town upside down and rained upon them stones of clay. 74 Surely! In this are signs, for those who see (or understand or learn the lessons from the Signs of Allah). 75 Indeed, it is on a way which still exists. 76 Surely, in that there is a sign for those who believe. 77 The dwellers of the Thicket were harmdoers. 78 So We exacted retribution from them. They were both on an open highway, plain to see. 79
