Thamood, belied their Messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 142 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 143 So fear God and follow me. 144 I do not ask for any payment for my preaching. I shall receive my reward from the Lord of the Universe. 145 "Will ye be left secure, in (the enjoyment of) all that ye have here? 146 In these gardens and these springs, 147 farms, and palm-trees in thick groves, 148 Will you still skilfully hew houses out of the mountains? 149 So be mindful of God and listen to me. 150 Do not follow those who are extravagant, 151 "Who make mischief in the land, and reform not." 152 They said: "Thou art only one of those bewitched! 153 Thou art nothing but a mortal like ourselves! Come, then, forward with a token [of thy mission] if thou art a man of truth!" 154 He said, "Here is a she-camel. She shall have her turn of drinking, as you have yours, each on an appointed day, 155 Do not cause her to suffer lest you become subject to the torment of the great day (of Judgment)." 156 So they hamstrung her, and in the morning could only regret. 157 So the torment overtook them. Verily, in this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 158 Your Lord, He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159
