The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event takes place, 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 [on that Day] you shall be divided into three groups. 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 but only a few from the later generations. 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness), 17 With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 And spreading shade, 30 and outpoured waters, 31 And fruit in plenty 32 Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden, 33 And raised couches. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 And made them virgins. 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
