Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ The Inevitable Calamity! 1 What is the Reality? 2 And what shall make thee know that which the Inevitable Calamity is. 3 The tribes of Thamud and 'Aad belied the Striking Day. 4 But the Thamud,- they were destroyed by a terrible Storm of thunder and lightning! 5 and as for the 'Ad - they were destroyed by a storm wind furiously raging, 6 Which He made to prevail against them for seven nights and eight days unremittingly, so that you might have seen the people therein prostrate as if they were the trunks of hollow palms. 7 Beholdest thou any of them remaining? 8 And Pharaoh, and those before him, and the Cities Overthrown, committed habitual Sin. 9 And they disobeyed the Apostle of their Lord, so He punished them with a vehement punishment. 10 Verily We! when the water rose, We bare you upon the traversing ark. 11 That We might make it a Message unto you, and that ears (that should hear the tale and) retain its memory should bear its (lessons) in remembrance. 12 And when the trumpet shall sound one blast 13 And the earth and the mountains shall be borne and the twain shall be crushed with a single crash. 14 Then on that Day shall the (Great) Event befall, 15 And the heaven will split [open], for that Day it is infirm. 16 and will turn frail, losing all force. The angels will be around the heavens and on that day eight of them will carry the Throne of your Lord above all the creatures. 17 On that Day you shall be brought to judgment: not [even] the most hidden of your deeds will remain hidden. 18 Then as for him who is given his book in his right hand, he will say: Lo! read my book: 19 Verily I was sure that I would be handed over my account.” 20 So he shall be in a pleasing life 21 In a lofty Garden – 22 With fruits hanging low within reach, 23 “Eat and drink with pleasure – the reward of what you sent ahead, in the past days.” 24 But as for him who will be given his Record in his left hand, will say: "I wish that I had not been given my Record! 25 and that we would never knew what our records contained. 26 Oh! Would that the death that came to me in the world had made an end of me! 27 "My wealth has not availed me, 28 There hath perished from me my authority. 29 The angels will be told, "Seize and chain them, 30 then throw them into hell to be heated up therein. 31 and then thrust him into a chain [of other sinners like him - a chain] the length whereof is seventy cubits: 32 Verily, He used not to believe in Allah, the Most Great, 33 nor did he urge the feeding of the needy. 34 Today he shall have no loyal friend here, 35 Nor any food save filthy corruption. 36 which none but the sinners eat!" 37
