In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O THOU enwrapped one! 1 stand up to pray for much of the night. 2 Half of it - or subtract from it a little 3 Or a little more; and recite the Quran (aloud) in a slow, (pleasant tone and) style. 4 Behold, We shall cast upon you a Weighty Word. 5 Indeed getting up in the night is tougher, and the words flow with strength. 6 whereas by day a long chain of doings is thy portion. 7 But [whether by night or by day,] remember thy Sustainer's name, and devote thyself unto Him with utter devotion. 8 The Sustainer of the east and the west [is He]: there is no deity save Him: hence, ascribe to Him alone the power to determine thy fate, 9 And bear thou with patience whatsoever they say, and depart from them with a becoming departure. 10 Leave the prosperous disbelievers to Me and give them respite for a little while; 11 for with Us there are fetters, and a furnace, 12 food that chokes and painful punishment 13 on the Day the earth and mountains shall shake and the mountains crumble into shifting sand dunes. 14 Surely We have sent to you an Apostle, a witness against you, as We sent an apostle to Firon. 15 But Pharaoh rebelled against the messenger, whereupon We seized him with no gentle grip. 16 Then how shall ye, if ye deny (Allah), guard yourselves against a Day that will make children hoary-headed?- 17 Whereon the sky will be cleft asunder? His Promise needs must be accomplished. 18 This is indeed a Reminder. Let whosoever will take the Path to his Lord. 19

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
