The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ Of what ask they? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 whereupon they are at variance? 3 Indeed they will come to know soon; 4 Again, by no means! anon they shall know. 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs. 8 And We made your sleep to be rest (to you), 9 And made the night as a covering, 10 and the day as time for you to make a living? 11 And built seven strong roofs above you. 12 And have kept a very bright lamp in it. 13 From the rain clouds We send waters pouring down in abundance, 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetables, 15 and gardens dense with follage. 16 Verily, the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 The Day the Horn is blown and you will come forth in multitudes 18 And the heaven shall be opened so that it shall be all openings, 19 And the mountains shall be moved off so that they shall remain a mere semblance. 20 Surely hell lies in wait, 21 It will be a place of return 22 They will abide therein for ages. 23 They will not feel cold nor taste any drink 24 Except hot boiling water and hot pus discharged from the people of hell. 25 An exact recompense (according to their evil crimes). 26 They did not expect such a Judgment 27 and they rejected outright Our signs; 28 And We have kept recorded everything in a Book, accounted for. 29 So taste (the fruit of what you sowed), for We shall add nothing but torment, 30
