Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 (Some) faces on that day shall be downcast, 2 Toiling, weary, 3 about to enter a glowing fire, 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 They shall have no food but of thorns, 6 which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 In that day other faces will be calm, 8 Glad for their effort past, 9 They will be in a lofty Garden 10 They shall hear therein no vain discourse; 11 Wherein is a gushing spring, 12 Therein will be thrones raised high, 13 And goblets ready placed! 14 And cushions ranged! 15 And carpets spread out. 16 Then do they not look at the camels - how they are created? 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And the mountains, how they were fixed; 19 and how the earth is spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 Thou art not over them a warden. 22 But whosoever will turn back and disbelieve 23 will be punished by God with the greatest punishment. 24 for behold, unto Us will be their return, 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
