[AND] the dwellers of the wooded dales [of Madyan] gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 176 when their brother Shu'ayb said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 177 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 178 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 179 And I do not ask you any reward for it, my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds; 180 ۞ Give full measure, and be not of those who cause others to lose. 181 And weigh with the true balance. 182 and do not defraud people in their property or spread evil in the land. 183 Fear Him who created you, and the generations of the ancients.' 184 They said: "Surely you are deluded. 185 And you are naught but a mortal like ourselves, and we know you to be certainly of the liars. 186 But in case you are speaking the truth, then make a segment of the sky to fall upon us." 187 He said, "My Lord is most knowing of what you do." 188 Then they branded him a liar, whereupon the chastisement of the Day of Canopy overtook them. It was the chastisement of a very awesome day. 189 In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 190 And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 191
