The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 Arise and warn, 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 and purify your clothing, 4 stay away from sins 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 Burning the skins! 29 over it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
