The Town (Al-Balad)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Nay! I swear by this city 1 For you (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) are in this city. 2 And by oath of your forefather Ibrahim, and by you – his illustrious son! 3 We verily have created man in an atmosphere: 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 He saith: I have wasted riches plenteous. 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes? 8 One tongue, and two lips, 9 And did We not guide him to the two elevated things? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 And what have you understood, what the valley is! 12 (It is) the freeing of a slave, 13 or the feeding in times of famine 14 To the orphan with claims of relationship, 15 or to a needy person in distress; 16 And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity. 17 They are the people of the right hand (and will succeed). 18 And those who denied Our signs, are the people of the left. 19 over them is a Fire covered down. 20
